In 1991, AlBaraka
Islamic Bank decided to expand its network outside its home country
Bahrain, and opened its first branch in Pakistan at Lahore to
introduce Shariah Compliant Banking, and became a Pioneer of Islamic
Banking in this country. It now has twelve operational branches
covering almost all the important business centres of the country
and reaching out nearer the doorsteps of its geographically and
economically diverse clientele, to meet a well established and
steadily growing demand for Shariah-compliant system of banking and
finance.
The
steadily growing operations in Pakistan is a testimony to the
commitment and faith of AlBaraka in the buoyant economy of Pakistan,
its vibrant banking sector and the bright future it promises for
growth in Islamic Banking in particular. This can be seen from the
fact that AlBaraka went to Pakistan with a Capital investment of
US$2 million in 1991, which has now increased to US$33.7 million,
supporting an active and consistently profitable operation, which
has since grown from a one-branch operation with Assets of US$3.1
million and staff strength of just 20 in 1991, to its present
network of twelve branches with an Asset base of US$320 million and
a staff strength of 328.

in Pakistan offers a complete range of products/services, including
a mix of Shariah-compliant Deposit products to suit different
investment needs, Murabaha, Musharaka & Ijarah products and
Foreign Trade Financing. Besides, it offers modern
customer-convenience products like ATM Cards, Debit Cards, Online
Banking and Consumer Banking products, such as Car Ijarah and
Housing Musharaka products, all of which are strictly RIBA-FREE.
